Acupuncture

Acupuncture - SDP Physiotherapy - Chelmsford, Essex

Acupuncture is primarily used for relieving pain. Research shows that acupuncture stimulates the brain to produce natural pain relieving chemicals called endorphins. These endorphins help the body to heal itself and so provide pain relief. Acupuncture is generally very safe with side effects being extremely rare.

All acupuncture needles are pre-sterilised and are for single use only, thereby eliminating the risk of infection. The effects of acupuncture are cumulative, so people being treated will generally require two to three treatments; however, some people do respond to their first treatment.

During treatment, a patient will feel a minor needling sensation, (heaviness, fullness, deep aching or warmth). This confirms that the acupuncture is taking effect, and improvement can be expected.
