Electrotherapy

Electrotherapy - SDP Physiotherapy - Chelmsford, Essex

Electrotherapy treatments offered include the use of ultrasound and TENS machines.

Ultrasound

Ultrasound passes painless sound waves through the body causing oscillation of the particles. It is suggested that ultrasound applied to injured tissues speeds the rate of healing, reduces inflammation, improves circulation, influences the remodelling of the scar tissue and enhances the quality of the repair. Ultrasound is often used in conjunction with other hands-on treatments and is commonly used for a variety of soft tissue injuries.

TENS

TENS stands for transcutaneous nerve stimulation. It is a method of electrical stimulation, which is used to provide pain relief by specifically exciting sensory nerves; thereby, stimulating the pain gate mechanism, which blocks the messages to the brain telling it the body is experiencing pain. It is a battery, powered unit which uses electrodes placed onto the skin to deliver electrical impulses to the nerve fibres which lie under the skin´s surface.
