Physiotherapy
Physiotherapy is a profession concerned with therapeutically enhancing the mobility and quality of life of an individual. For this to be achieved, physiotherapists are involved in health promotion, injury prevention, assessment, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of injuries, disabilities and diseases. Physiotherapists have a variety of treatments at their disposal to relieve pain, regain range of movement, restore muscle strength and return patients to their normal activities of daily living. Such treatments include massage, exercises, manipulation, mobilisation and electrotherapy such as ultrasound.
The title of Physiotherapist is protected by the Health Professions Council (HPC).
Who are the HPC?
The HPC are health regulators who were set up to protect the health and well being of the public. To do this, they keep a register of health professionals who have met their standards in terms of training, professional skills, behaviour and health.
